Topic 2: Chatbots and social connection
Thoughts while reading
- I can imagine if I was 10 years old right now, I would see AI as some sort of human. Unlike us, they don’t know that AI wasn’t that good just 2 years ago.
- As what the article said, this is where the problem lies.
- They will live their lives thinking that human = AI but because AI can never replace the feeling of true human connection, they would feel like something is missing from their lives
- 2 ways you can bond with people
- unless you’re a kid, it’s hard to bond with AI
- kids who depend on AI for human connection will probably face some mental issues when they grow up and realize that AI is not giving you what truly need as a grown-up
- In some way it’s just like how, in these days, you might fall into the trap of relying on AI for a lot of things like programming for example. The same thing can be said for human connection.
- You grow up relying on AI to fulfill and satisfy your need for human connection But as you grow up you depend on it more but it still doesn’t satisfy your needs because now you know that AI isn’t a human
- 2 ways you can bond with people
- So as you can tell, I’m not too bullish on making AI act like someone you know or let it fulfill your needs of social connection. But where I am bullish is the service sector and everything that lies in there. For this topic, we’ll stick to the healthcare industry
- In the second article they mentioned that the purpose of replica is to give people The ability to make a replica of someone that represents someone they trust and are able to share personal information to.
- I generally like that idea, Especially where they said that it’s trained, with the help of psychological research, to ask questions in a way that makes people open up and respond with honesty and deep reflection but what I don’t like is connecting that to a certain person or relationship one has.
Group 3
- kinda like personalized ads
- the role of the parent in this
- if an AI is asked “are you an AI”, it should respond yes (Jimmy)
- AI can take the role of a copilot. In the future it can possibly replace certain roles but for that to work,
- Omar: it’s unethical to connect AI
- when
- 24/7 relationship: trained to validate yr opinions
- in some way tech is isolating people.
- Matthew dating apps helps bridge the gap
- it’s hard to talk to people, AI is easy
- everyone wants to
- invisible wall
- open
- everyone
- video games and common ground
- leveraging guardrails (Matthew)
- marriage AI:
- “Her”
- perfect partner
- But it’s not real,
- incels. If they really need it. Maybe could be used as medication
Post-discussion reflection
- I was definitely more active in this discussion because The topic means more to me and aligns more with ways I personally leverage AI
- We all generally talked the same amount except for the person with the beautiful beard (didn’t catch his name). He was not completely silent but relatively spoke less than the others
- I liked the questions Jimmy imposed on the things that I shared
