Difficulty in Speaking Due to Overstimulation

I have a problem when talking with people or just talking in general. When the mental stimulation I receive from the world is too high, I can’t speak clearly. Why can I not control my emotions? I believe the solution is to be Mindful because sometimes my mind is all over the place. The key may be to focus on one thing and not get distracted by external factors. However, that’s very hard to achieve, especially when there’s so much stimulus coming from the world.

I assume that if you have ADHD, this effect might be even stronger. All the stimulus can divert attention and distract from whatever you’re trying to do, which makes it even worse for them. That’s a problem.

Strategies for Managing Overstimulation

So, what does that mean for me? What can I do to manage and remain in control of how my body works, especially with speaking? Here are a few ideas for personal action:

  • Practice mindfulness techniques to improve focus and attention.
  • Develop a system to identify and minimize distractions.
  • Use strategies like deep breathing or grounding exercises before engaging in conversations.
  • focus on eye contact and avoid wandering around with your eyes. When things get overwhelming, I close my eyes for a moment to steady my emotions

Conducting a Project to Track Progress

How would I conduct a project around this, and how can I track this?

  1. Set Clear Goals: Define what successful communication looks like for me.
  2. Establish Baselines: Determine my current level of distraction and speaking difficulties.
  3. Implement Strategies: Practice mindfulness and other focus-related activities consistently.
  4. Track Progress & Reflect Regularly: this taps into another challenge I wanted to conduct over the next few months as well: Reflecting everyday before I sleep. I will rate my “communication” and “mindfulness” everyday and try to notice patterns and learn from them

By following these steps, I hope to gain better control over my speaking clarity amidst high mental stimulation.

I also plan to build software that can help with that. Something like getfluently.app

I built a simple version of that here if you’re curious: https://youtu.be/YM9n5OxhGO8
