Treating Strangers Differently

I’ve talked about this a few times before, but what sets me apart—and what I’ve noticed—is how I treat strangers. My perception of strangers is so different from how others see them. In some ways, this is a weakness, but other times, it’s a power. While everyone assumes the worst in others, I assume the best. I ask courageous questions and I’m not afraid to hear “no.”

Building a Community

Relating this to what I’m building, I aim to help others realize this perspective and live by it. There’s so much power when you trust strangers and collaborate with them. It makes life so much easier because you’re no longer alone. You’re supported, or at least you trust that no matter what happens, some random stranger will offer support. You’re never alone.

Connection to Loneliness

This connects to loneliness. Loneliness is tied to isolation, right? People feel isolated when they don’t feel connected to the world, when they don’t belong, or when they feel they don’t matter. But when they believe, and know for a fact, that there are people who care, that sense of loneliness and lack of belonging gets erased. It is filled by trust in the world and its people.

Recognizing Good in an Evil World

I know this might sound delusional given that it’s sometimes an evil world we live in, with evil people doing evil things. But that doesn’t erase the good people. We should value them more for being good in an evil world. Trust them, love them, and hopefully, they can inspire others to trust in humanity too. This inspiration can lead to creating something bigger than themselves, something meaningful and humanistic.

The Role of Technology

But how do we reach that point? Can technology help? That’s what I want to pursue. It’s exactly what I want to do. Yet, maybe technology isn’t the answer. It might be more of a societal problem that’s beyond my abilities. But that doesn’t stop me from trying and seeing where it takes me. In that journey, I’ll trust that I’ll have the right people to support me because nothing powerful or impactful can be accomplished alone.
