Who is doing the task?
This task is for any user who encounters a concerning or malicious interaction, whether that’s Mark, Ken, or any other Orbit user.
While Orbit is designed to encourage positive, meaningful connections, not every interaction will go as expected.
- Mark and Ken’s meetup was a success, but what if another user encountered someone who made them uncomfortable?
- Users need to feel empowered to take action if something doesn’t feel right.
- No one should feel trapped in an interaction they don’t want to be in.
This task is about ensuring that users always have an easy way to protect themselves.
Where is the task being done?
The task can happen in several places within the app, including:
- While browsing meetup requests.
- Inside the chat interface.
- During or after a meetup.
It is essential that users can take action at any stage of the process.
What is the goal of the person doing the task?
The goal is to immediately stop contact with a user who makes them feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or violated in any way.
This includes:
- Blocking a user so they cannot interact again.
- Reporting a user if their behavior violates community guidelines.
- Ensuring the action is fast, discreet, and does not escalate the situation.
When is the task being done and how long should it take?
- The task should be instantaneous: Users should not need to navigate multiple menus or deal with unnecessary complexity.
- Users should be able to block or report within seconds.
Detailed Task Flow
-
Recognizing a Problem
- A user encounters a red flag, inappropriate behavior, harassment, or any discomforting interaction.
- They decide they don’t want further contact with this person.
-
Taking Action
- The user opens the chat menu or taps on the profile of the other person.
- They select either:
- Block User → Immediately stops all interaction.
- Report User → Sends a report to the moderation team.
-
Immediate Confirmation & Protection
- If they block:
- The other person is instantly removed from their matches and chat history.
- They will never see requests from that user again.
- If they report:
- The system acknowledges the report and asks if they want to block as well.
- The report is sent to moderation for review.
- If they block:
-
Post-Action Reassurance
- The user feels safe and in control.
- They can continue using the app without fear of encountering that user again.
Why This Task Matters
Orbit’s success depends on trust and safety. This feature:
- Empowers users to control their experience.
- Eliminates barriers to taking action.
- Ensures that users feel safe and respected at all times.
A seamless reporting/blocking system ensures that users can confidently engage in the app, knowing that they are in control of who they interact with.
