B) EXTERNAL LIFE

What is this one character’s objective? What do they want?

Orbit wants to help every student at the University of Calgary feel like they belong and find genuine connection—even in a world that often feels disconnected and fast-paced. He’s determined to make sure nobody feels invisible or left out

What is standing in their way?

  • In fall 2019, in his final year of University, as he was driving home after a fun hang out with his friends, a drunk driver crashed on him and caused him to have a 2-year-long coma. On January 15th 2022, Orbit wakes up to a world that is drastically different from the world he was in 2019. He can’t seem to understand what the hell has COVID done to humanity?
  • All his close friends from University graduated and left the city, and when he tried going out to make friends, everyone would seem to be too busy to have a casual conversation.
  • All of that is causing him to also feel lonely and isolated himself.

What kinds of tactics do they use to get what they want?

  • He’s always listening, introducing people who might get along, and gently nudging those on the sidelines into the heart of the action.
  • He makes a habit of remembering people’s names, stories, and what excites them—helping everyone feel seen

What’s at stake for the character?

Everything he does is driven by the hope of bringing back that lost sense of community both for himself and for everyone on campus. If he can’t spark those connections, he fears not only for his own ongoing loneliness, but also for a campus full of people who are physically together, yet emotionally distant

C) SETTING

Where and when does this character live? How do they feel about this place?

Orbit lives on campus at the University of Calgary. To Orbit, this place is both hopeful and bittersweet: it’s filled with untapped potential for real connection, but also haunted by the ghost of his own loneliness after waking up from his coma. But he has hope that he would actually be able to rewrite the narrative not just for himself, but for every student seeking their people.
