what do you want to build, create, or investigate during your residency?

Let’s go with the analogy of each person is a country. What I’m building right now is something that will remove all the borders. Anyone from anywhere would be able to connect with each other. This is made possible through a friend that is able to talk to and get to know everyone. I want to document that process, share what I’ve learned to teach other people how to build their own AI superconnectors like boardy.ai and series.so I want to investigate the best way to build an AI superconnector to effectively reduce the border surrounding each person to achieve their full potential in life. Because level the playing field…

I’m building Orbit, an AI-powered superconnector that eliminates the social barriers between people—starting with students at University. It’s like a 4th dimension to the world where you bump into ppl who can transform ur life whenever and wherever you are.

Orbit is built to make finding and connecting with the right people frictionless. It learns who you are, what drives you, and what you’re looking for, and uses that context to introduce you to the right people at the right time. Whether you’re looking for friends, mentors, co-founders, or a life partner, Orbit will either notify you about a potential connection from the internet or from where you’re at right this second

During the residency, I want to:

  • Ship a scalable prototype that runs on a vector database + memory graph architecture, enabling persistent, evolving context across thousands of conversations.
  • Open-source key parts of the system so others can build their own superconnectors, like Boardy.ai or Series.so, but optimized for their own networks.
  • Explore optimal UX + prompt design for LLMs that are meant to make intros, not just answer questions.

My long-term goal is to build infrastructure for real-time, intelligent social coordination—the kind of thing that changes how people find their place, build relationships, and unlock opportunities.

Orbit is the first step. The endgame is removing all the borders between people.

Orbit is built to make the process of finding and connecting with the right people frictionless. It learns who you are, what drives you, and what you’re looking for, and uses that context to introduce you to the right people at the right time. Whether you’re looking for friends, mentors, co-founders, or a life partner, Orbit works in two ways:

  1. As you’re out n about, like walking into a cafe, a classroom, or a gym, Orbit can instantly flag the kind of people you’re looking to meet in realtime. But it doesn’t stop there
  2. it also scans your extended and Orbit network to help you find exactly who you’re looking to meet

It’s like having a best friend who knows everyone around you, and everyone you should know, and quietly makes the right intros.

Unlike other AI’s, Orbit is proactive. It unobtrusively walks with you and opens doors you didn’t even know existed. Not just to people, but to opportunities that can change your life

During the residency, I want to:

  • Continue building a scalable prototype that runs on efficient & effective AI agents.
  • Open-source and document/“build-in-public” key parts of the system so others can build their own version of an AI superconnector like Boardy.ai or Series.so
  • Explore optimal UX + flow for the smoothest onboarding process, and making the process of connecting with others as effortless as possible

Orbit cannot be Orbit without gaining people’s trust. I’m designing it from the ground up with privacy and safety at the core. We don’t just protect user data, we respect it. Just like how a real friend would

what are 2-3 things you are most proud of?

  • spent over 800 hours working on 2 mobile apps: Exo and Orbit, and 400+ hours creating 25+ videos while being a 3.7/4 GPA fulltime student & intern
    • It required me to strictly manage my time and sacrifice a lot of things. But it wasn’t too hard since I’m deeply motivated to work on these things
  • The biggest challenge I have faced in life was overcoming porn addiction while also feeling lonely. I am now on a mission to help others break free from anything that controls them.
    • despite people advising me not to, I shared everything that I learned from that experience: https://youtu.be/bMrvcLhHpaQ , https://youtu.be/VCPFdTO7S6A
    • I can’t stay quiet about something that is aligned with my purpose of helping people reach their full potential
    • This is something I don’t really openly talk about with people in-person unless they reach out to me to talk
  • Overcoming my social anxiety
    • Having overcome social anxiety, I deeply understand the barriers to genuine connection. I struggled to trust people and deeply bond with them. By studying behavioral psychology and personal development, I learned so much about human nature and what it takes to connect with people. Now I want to share that wisdom with the world through content like YouTube videos (https://youtube.com/@ramimaalouf) and tech like apps

One: I’ve spent over 800 hours building two mobile apps (Exo & Orbit) and 400+ hours producing 25+ videos, all while maintaining a 3.7 GPA as a full-time student and intern. That level of output required extreme focus, strict time management, and a willingness to cut out distractions that unis have. But I didn’t mind since my motivation to work on these things are deep and pure.

Two: One of the hardest battles I’ve faced was overcoming pornography addiction, while also dealing with loneliness and no sense of belonging. Most people told me not to talk about it. I did anyway. I documented what I learned and shared it publicly on YouTube (https://youtu.be/bMrvcLhHpaQ, https://youtu.be/VCPFdTO7S6A). If I can help someone break free from anything that controls them, then I believe it’s more than worth it.

Three: I used to struggle with social anxiety. I had a hard time trusting people, forming real connections, and feeling a sense of belonging. By studying behavioral psychology and personal development, I learned so much about human nature and what it takes to connect with people. And now I channel that into everything I build, from my YouTube channel (@ramimaalouf) to Orbit & Exo
