Why do you want to be a guest speaker?
A brief background on me and my life mission:
I live by the quote in my Instagram bio: instagram.com/psycho.baller
“and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same”
By striving to reach my fullest potential, I aspire to bring out the best in the people around me. More specifically, I love helping people who are currently struggling with a thing that I managed to overcome. Back in my 12th grade, I was filled with nervousness, anticipation, and excitement for the next chapter, but didn’t have any answers to the 100s of questions that I had nor anyone to ask.
So I’d like to be that beam of light that I didn’t have when I was preparing to move to Canada and University of Calgary.
I’ve previously represented my university through my work and entrepreneurial spirit (https://rami-maalouf.tech/uc-orbit-vid | https://rami-maalouf.tech/uc-orbit-article). Now, I would like to represent the University of Calgary both in my hometown and globally. I love that the university is embracing an entrepreneurial spirit, and I’d be proud to help pioneer that movement
Do you have any public speaking or student leadership experience?
I have extensive public speaking experience. I’ve invested thousands of dollars in improv courses tailored to business communication and presentation skills. I presented during the closing ceremony of my exchange program in germany: https://youtu.be/lq2LqPiCSp0
and more recently, I pitched my startup https://photos.app.goo.gl/9act7KzeSC5m8Jkt8
I also have significant student leadership experience. I am the founder and president of The Chalant Society where I am basically a cheerleader for people who want to expand their comfort zone. Every week, I go with 4 strangers into the lunch area of my university, and I do everything in my abilities to help them get outside their comfort zone while having fun and bringing out positive energy around campus.
I’m also a member of the UCalgary Recovery Community, where I received an Excellence Award for Leadership worth $2,500 CAD
Additionally, I’ve volunteered to help first-year students move in, assisted new graduates with their gowns, and contributed to several other university initiatives throughout my 4.5 years as a student
