Context

  • After visiting Peggy’s cove, we wanted to find a place to eat coz Laeek wanted to have iftar
  • We go to a goated place where the dude taking orders seemed to have this pure, genuine energy in him when interacting with us and his coworkers.
  • When I ordered and was about to pay, I asked him, as I always ask before paying any bill, “do you get the tips”. Almost all the time, it takes them a second or two to process the question and shift his personality from work to off work. Then they answer (most non-fancy restaurants) “No” in a very subtle and shy manner (makes sense, maybe they don’t want his coworkers to notice)
  • As we were waiting for the food, Ias kinda creepily watching him and his words. Realized he speaks Arabic so I ask him “Min wen?”(From where?)… “Iraq”
  • After around 10-15 mins, the food was ready so he called us up to take the food from his hands.
  • I was kinda hesitant of asking for his eTransfer coz apparently it’s weird to do that(I mean I guess so)
  • But at the end of the day, I strive to always act on my kindness because I regret most of the times I don’t.
  • So I obviously go for it and ask him if he got eTransfer as if I was asking for drugs. He was like nah it’s all good and from there our voices incrementally increased in volume as we both tried to thank each other. I rlly wanted to show appreciation for his genuine/pure energy that he was putting out even in the end of his shift. In the end of the day, I rlly hope I at least made his day a lil more memorable and, in the best case, motivated him to continue emitting the same energy or more, now that he knows that there are people who would pay and appreciate that energy
