I kinda got really scared as we approached the Austrian border but we crossed it and it was all clear. No polizei anywhere. But, as I look to my left, I see a whole ass line of cars waiting behind the police.
that kinda scared me but I just immediately went Stoicism mode and thought of the worst case scenario: they would stupidly keep me in the border until someone from Berlin comes and gets my passport.
Thoughts
after having that thought, I just forgot about that issue and moved on with my life
German border encounter
Today was the day I finally encountered them
The driver told us to go out with our ID and passport for a security check
I decided to wear on my sleeping mask on my forehead to show innocence and ignorance about the existence of this border
Has this brief thought of hiding in the bus but that didn’t last for long
When it was my turn, I explained myself and told him I didn’t know that and he told me that the German border in Austria has been in effect since 2015.
I’m glad they were chill. They relatively answered my questions and had no serious tone.
I made sure I showed them my alberta/Canadian ID before mentioning that I’m not Canadian and actually Lebanese. First impressions matter, even in border control
They took my id and a couple of others’ as well to do a “database check/verification”
The verifications of the ppl in passport was odd and the only black man in the bus was also stopped even though he also had his passport… Idk what to think of that. But my default response was to relax him and basically indicate that I wanna help them and I’m in their side but ended up doing nothing coz I realized I don’t know the whole story. Idk why and what they’re looking for so I kept my mouth shut
